Wagram
Activities were restricted at the Lutétia Wagram, the Grand Cinema in the Montparnasse Palace, the Pathé-Journal, and the Récamier cinema, as well as every entertainment venue, because of employee mobilization and wartime austerity. But the cinema was booming and, while complying with censorship and restrictions on energy use, movie theaters were soon reopened. Parisians were starved for news from the front, and especially for newsreels. The brand new Military Cinema Section that was created in February 1915 provided the news. Movie theaters broadcast official discourse intended to raise civilians’ spirits. Patriotism was also fueled by "great patriotic tragedies" and blatantly anti-German movies, although there were also genuine blockbusters like The Iron Claw and The Exploits of Elaine.
